Rome, June 24th, 2024 – With more than €153 million (+38% compared to 2022) in value added and €124 million in value distributed across the territory (+43% compared to 2022), 2023 confirms Società Gasdotti Italia’s commitment to the decarbonization and energy security of Italy.
The steady work of SGI, Italy’s second-largest natural gas transmission company, has also led to a 41% reduction in direct greenhouse gas emissions and a -23% reduction in indirect emissions in 2023 against a 13% decrease in energy consumption from the previous year.
These are some of the achievements featured in SGI’s fifth Sustainability Report that testify to the growth path taken by the company through the development of safe and adequate infrastructure to transport green molecules in the future, in line with the directions of the Business Plan.
Another central theme for SGI is human capital: in 2023 the SGI team recorded a 36% increase in recruitment compared to 2022. On the training front, more than 4,400 hours were provided involving all employees, including more than 1,400 hours on HSE topics.
“2023 has been a decisive year for Società Gasdotti Italia, which has strengthened its organizational structure and prepared a new Strategic Plan that calls for more than 600 million euros in new investments by 2033 for natural gas transmission and the energy security of our system,” – comments Roberto Loiola, CEO of SGI “In the next decade we expect an acceleration in the adoption of new gases such as biomethane and hydrogen. Significant challenges await us in the coming years, so it will be crucial to continue to develop the skills of our people and partnerships on the ground, while carrying out our ESG goals with equal determination and effectiveness.”
SGI is committed to upholding the values of diversity and inclusion through the adoption of corporate, organizational and management mechanisms marked by respect for people’s rights and freedom. Among its achievements in this area, SGI recently obtained certification for gender equality (PdR 125:2022). The company today has a female workforce of more than 23%, including about 33% in top positions and about 43% on the Board of Directors.
The four pillars of SGI’s strategy include as goals the achievement of “Net Zero” and the best possible levels of security; the pursuit of high standards of innovation and digitalization by evolving the infrastructure to the transmission of new energy carriers; the development of partnerships with companies and communities on the territory based on speed of execution and flexibility; and the enhancement of human capital.
